On summer weekdays when I have no meetings I like to spare myself some comfort by wearing just a polo and chinos. This business casual look is easy going yet compliant to my office’s dress code. A couple nights ago I received this striped Norwalk polo from Frank & Oak that I ended up wearing to work the next morning. Upon trying it on, I was immediately impressed with this polo’s perfect fit and ultra soft fabric. I own quite a few pique polos in my closet, but this one is by far the most comfortable. Such a winning business casual piece!
Because summer nights out for me usually consist of simple meals followed or preceded by outdoor activities, it’s been a little while since I’ve dressed up for dining. So on Saturday when my friend Ida and I decided to go to The Acorn for a fine vegan meal, I jumped at the opportunity to pull out some new formal pieces that I had not yet worn. This tuxedo blazer and double monk strap shoes are both pieces in classic styles but with a modern twist – my favourite.
One of my favourite things about summer is the extended hours of daylight. During this month Vancouver has been having over 15 hours of sunlight each day; It’s a true luxury to be able to take post-dinner walk without having to throw on an extra jacket. This was not the case when I grew up in the Canadian prairies, since the temperature would easily drop below 10 degrees on summer nights. I believe that weather has a big impact of people’s moods, and other than the heavy showers that happen occasionally in Vancouver, I’m pretty pleased with my city’s climate!
Having a bit of a hard time believing it’s Thursday – this week completely flew by! It’s been a busy few days for me because I’ve just embarked on some new projects at work that have exercised a lot of my creative thinking. No complaints though, I always tell people that being busy is good because it means you’re important! Haha!
Weekends are usually my chance to dress down in shorts and tees, but that was not the case this past weekend as I had to look polished to attend a tour of the Rennie Art Gallery in Chinatown. My friend invited me to this event last minute and I was pretty excited because I have always been a fan of contemporary art. When viewing art, I try to come from a learner’s perspective. Although I’m not an artist myself, artwork is able to give me ideas for styling and photography – which I use on this blog! This is especially true in modern art pieces since they present artistic ways to view mundane aspects of everyday life.
