I honestly can’t recall the last time I had cotton candy, but the other day I stepped out of the house with resemblances to this carnival treat. Pink and light blue together give off a bright and comical effect which I thought would be fun to wear to the Vancouver Pride Weekend festivities!
On Sunday, me and half of my city were at the Vancouver Pride Parade. With over half a million attendees, this outdoor event is definitely one of the biggest that we have. When I first moved to Vancouver from Calgary, I was uncertain about the meaning of Pride week and I did not take part in the festivities. Eventually I learned that Pride Week is not an event with a specific audience, but it is a general celebration of acceptance and equality among all human beings. Since I am a visual minority and I was a victim of bullying for many years in my life, I am definitely empathetic towards those who struggle with fitting in. Attending Pride festivities is a way of supporting a fair world and it’s certainly a bonus that they’re so fun and eye-opening as well. I am so lucky to live in a city where everyone’s happiness is considered equally important!
