For this new post in my Ways to Wear series I will be talking about one of my favourite Fall/Winter items: the Flannel Shirt. Flannel is a soft and comfortable woven fabric that I really enjoy wearing during cooler seasons. Flannel shirts are usually in a plaid pattern and are considered more casual than a dress shirt or an oxford shirt. Here I’ll be showcasing 2 casual ways and 2 formal ways to style this easy-going piece.
1. 90’s Grunge
The “waist wrap” is back this season, and one of the best pieces to do it with is the flannel shirt. I used to do this a lot when I was a kid since it’s a handy way to hang on to the flannel shirt without having to wear it. I like topping this look off with a leather jacket for the full 90’s grunge look.

2. Light Jacket
If you live somewhere with warmer climate, the flannel shirt can double up as a light jacket. This is an easy weekend look that I often go for.

3. Sweater Weather
Rather than a dress shirt, the flannel shirt is a cozy and fun piece to wear underneath a sweater. The pattern and soft fabric of a flannel shirt offers a different take on this classic shirt and sweater combination.

4. Casually Suited
Dressing up plaid is always a stylish choice. Even though the flannel shirt is very casual, it can still be elevated with a blazer over top. It’s best to choose a blazer in a casual fabric such as cotton.
